Barry Gascoyne (FCA, ACII)
Managing Director
Barry Gascoyne is the managing director and principal of the practice which he established in 1987.
He originally worked in the area of insurance for Norwich Union and then came to the decision to take his articles in accountancy. Barry qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1971 and joined an accountancy firm in London which is now one of the big four, where he carried out audit and accountancy work for large public companies and gained experience in their taxation and insolvency departments.
He then moved back to his Suffolk roots and became a partner in a medium sized accountancy practice in 1973. Barry then made the decision to go it alone and set up Gascoynes in 1987. He has an in depth knowledge and an enormous amount of experience within the accountancy field. However, taxation is his main love and the area in which he specialises.
Out of work, Barry is a member of Stowmarket & District Lions Club, a keen golfer and a season ticket holder at his beloved Ipswich Town.

Chris Reeve (ACA)
Tax and Audit Partner
Chris is Barry’s co-director and manages a large portfolio of clients within the firm.
Chris joined the firm in 1991 straight from school and qualified as a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) in 1996. Having developed his skills and experience further, Chris then obtained his ACCA practising certificate in 2002 and was made a director of the firm in 2006. Following this, Chris successfully passed the ICAEW pathways scheme to become a qualified member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ACA) in 2008.
Chris deals with all areas of accountancy, VAT and taxation advice for sole traders, partnerships and small limited companies, as well as being responsible for the accounting and taxation standards and IT infrastructure within the firm.

Trevor Poole (BA HONS)
Tax Manager
Trevor Poole is the firm’s tax manager and has his own portfolio of clients within the firm.
After graduating from Nottingham University with a 2.1 BA Honours degree, Trevor commenced his accountancy training with Butt Cozens & Co of Colchester in 1985. After passing the graduate conversion course and part 1 of the professional examination of the Association of Chartered Accountants, Trevor then moved to Gascoynes in 1991.
Trevor deals with all areas of accountancy and taxation for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies together with the preparation of self assessment tax returns for high net worth clients and pensioners which ensures that he uses his taxation skills to their fullest.

John Kemp (FMAAT, MCMI)
Audit Manager
John joined the firm in 2007 and is responsible for managing the company’s audit clients as well as running his own client portfolio.
John trained with a local Chartered Accountants practice in Ipswich, beginning his career in the preparation of accounts of farmers, shop keepers and wholesalers. Subsequently he progressed to other firms in the locality, including one of the ‘big four’ London firms. He later rose to be Head of Accounting and Finance for an international tour operator.
As well as skills in personal and corporate tax planning, John brings to the firm his experience of negotiating with banks and other institutions, preparation of business planning and cash flow reporting and the development and management of accounting systems for many types of business, whether small or large.

Lynne Cooke
Office Manager
Lynne has been an ever present member of Gascoynes since its inception in 1987.
Lynne is the firm’s office manager, a role in which she has a great wealth of experience in dealing with all office, staff and administrative matters.
Lynne is an integral part of the business both ensuring that the office runs smoothly and our services to our clients remain of a high standard.

Thomas Buckley-Smith (ACCA)
Senior Accountant
Thomas joined Gascoynes in August 2004 and following the completion of his modern apprenticeship, successfully obtained his AAT qualification in February 2008.
He then moved onto studying for his ACCA qualifications and successfully completed his final ACCA examinations in August 2011 and is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
Thomas manages his own portfolio of clients, looking after all of their accountancy and taxation affairs with the assistance of Daniel.

Ashley MacDonald (MAAT)
Senior Accountant
Since joining the firm in 2004, Ashley has gradually worked his way up the firm now managing his own small portfolio of clients along with working closely with John and his clients.
Ashley assists Chris with the firm’s IT and professional development requirements and is also responsible for both the development of the website and the fee protection service cover which we offer to our clients.
Ashley qualified as a member of the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) in 2008 and is now currently working towards gaining his ACCA qualification.

Mark Thurston (MAAT)
Senior Accountant
Mark Joined Gascoynes in August 2006 after finishing his A-Levels. He completed his AAT qualification at West Suffolk College in August 2008.
He recently passed the fundamental level of the ACCA examinations and now currently working towards his full qualification.
Within the firm, Mark is responsible for the accounts preparation and self assessment tax returns for a small number of clients along with assisting Chris with his work within the office.

Ziaf Kulasi (MAAT)
Trainee Accountant
Ziaf joined the firm in August 2008 after completing his A Levels. He has been attending West Suffolk College for the past 2 years in relation to gaining his AAT technician level qualification which he passed in June 2010 to become a full member of the Association of Accounting Technicians. Ziaf is now looking forward to moving onto ACCA and furthering his knowledge at a higher level.
Ziaf assists the senior accountants with the preparation of accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies whilst also carrying out the payroll service for our clients.

Janice Johnson
Administrator
Janice is the receptionist at Gascoynes and has been with the firm since 1990. As well as being the first person you meet when you either ring or come into the office, Janice also carries out a great deal of the internal administration work within the firm including the continual improvement of our paperless office system.

Daniel Royal
Trainee Accountant
Daniel is the latest addition to Gascoynes joining the firm in July 2010 after completing his A levels. He is now looking forward to starting his Modern Apprenticeship Scheme and working towards his AAT qualification. Daniel assists with accounts preparation as well as carrying out some of the administrative duties within the office.
